formant frequency table for Sanskrit

Tue, 01/24/2012 - 02:41
HI All
I am looking for a speech formant frequency table for Sanskrit, if one
exists: such a table would list the specific vocal frequencies for
the 'sounds' of the Sanskrit language. Such tables have been created
for linguistic analysis of many other languages.

Tika lakshanam - How and Why about commentaries

Mon, 01/23/2012 - 23:39
सभायै नम:

I have just started reading Srimad Ramayana with 3 different
commentaries (published by Parimal Publications). Though I am just
stepping into Sanskrit, I could understand the commentary to a fair
extent. The commentators have done extra-ordinary work in bringing the
interested reader into Ramayana in some places even going all the way

Saṃskṛta is not a 'language'

Fri, 01/20/2012 - 05:59
Strictly speaking Saṃskṛta is not a language.
The definition of language, as provided by one of the great authorities on the subject, Webster’s, is as follows.
1. a body of words and the systems for their use common to a people who are of the same community or nation, the same geographical area, or the same cultural tradition: the two languages of Belgium; a Bantu language; the French language; the Yiddish language.

Simple Sanskrit - Laalibhasha of Ganapati Muni

Thu, 01/19/2012 - 13:33
Namaskara to all,
It is said in a biography of Ganapati Muni that "once he appealed to Gandhiji to make Sanskrit the official language of India. Gandhiji expressed doubt about its feasibility as only very few Indians knew Sanskrit. At this Ganapati Muni took up the task of making Sanskrit easy to learn and created a simplified Sanskrit called "Laalibhasha" and presented it to the elders of the Congress."
